The Tree of Life—A towering spruce suspended in space and rooted in mystery

A stroll along the sandy Kalaloch beaches offers stunning views, an abundance of wildlife and a true mystery of nature. The Tree of Life, also known as The Root Cave, “grows” along a coastal bluff near Kalaloch Campground. We use the term loosely. Defying all odds, not to mention the laws of gravity, this massive Sitka spruce continues to thrive despite its fully exposed root system.

Let your imagination be your guide as you ponder how the tree survives and flourishes without nutrients from the soil. Is it magic? A trick of nature? Toss out the rules of science and biology and simply enjoy this marvelous, mystical wonder.
