Hotel Vintage Park Joins Olympic Cellars in Celebrating

Peninsula’s Most Romantic Man

Port Angeles, Wash., Jan. 31, 2006 – Hotel Vintage Park, Seattle’s wine-themed hotel, will partner with Olympic Cellars this year to make the winery’s 4th annual Evening of Romance a true affair to remember. On Friday, Feb. 10, guests will gather at the winery to witness the crowning of one man whose romantic overtures, as penned by his intended, melted the hearts of Peninsula Daily News readers, lifted Olympic Cellars’ swoon-o-meter off its pedestal and earned him the title, Most Romantic Man on the Olympic Peninsula. The title comes with a grand prize that includes a weekend’s accommodations for two in Hotel Vintage Park’s Olympic Cellars Room and dinner at the award-winning Tulio restaurant.

“The Olympic Women in Wine get stung by Cupid this time each year,” says Olympic Cellars owner Kathy Charlton, “and this year his arrow also struck Sandy Burkett, general manager, Hotel Vintage Park, and inspired her to partner with us. We’re thrilled! The Evening of Romance has become a much anticipated community event. There are guys out there who may not strike you as the romantic type, but whose partners tell a different story. And this is their opportunity to tell the world – or at least the Peninsula – just how romantic their guys really are and much it means to them.”

The Evening of Romance is Olympic Cellars’ traditional way of kicking-off Valentine’s weekend.

The soiree begins at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Guests can dance to the music of Flutet featuring Carlos Xavier, while enjoying wine and light hors d’oeuvres. A giant red heart atop the century-old dairy barn that houses the winery will illuminate the Port Angeles sky. For more information visit www.olympiccellars.com  or call 360/452-0160.

How the Contest Works

A month prior to the Evening of Romance, local women are invited to send a letter to Olympic Cellars, describing why their guy should be crowned the Peninsula’s Most Romantic Man. Charlton and her team read the letters, and with the help of their trusty Swoon-o-meter, a tongue-in-cheek scale for measuring levels of emotion, select 14 finalists. The finalist letters are then published in a special section of the Peninsula Daily News along with a ballot. Members of the community vote for the winning letter.

Prizes

In addition to the weekend’s accommodations at Hotel Vintage Park and dinner at Tulio, the grand prize winner and his partner will receive tickets to Menopause the Musical, currently playing at The Act Theater, and an Olympic Cellars wine basket. Second prize, which includes two nights at the beautiful Chito Beach Resort on Clallam Bay, a gourmet picnic basket for two, and an Olympic Cellars wine basket, will go to the runner-up.

“We look forward to hosting the Most Romantic Man and his lucky partner,” says Sandy Burkett, General Manager, Hotel Vintage Park. “The hotel celebrates Washington’s bursting wine industry – and Washington wines are a natural complement to a romantic get-away.”

“But we’re also a great destination for not-so-romantic get-aways,” continues Burkett, “like a weekend with just the girls. Our “Gals Just Want to Have Wine” package includes a bottle of Olympic Cellars’ Working Girl® wine and Leslie Sbrocco’s book, ‘Wine for Women.’ Regardless of the occasion, we try strive to make all our guests’ stay at Hotel Vintage Park an affair to remember.”
