Olympic Cellars Helps Stomp Out Child Abuse at
3rd Annual Harvest Party
“Grape Stomping Boogie” supports Healthy Families of Clallam County
Port Angeles, Wash., Sept. 8, 2005 – Olympic Cellars invites young and old alike to celebrate the season’s bounty while helping to “stomp out child abuse” at the winery’s third annual Grape Stomping Harvest Party, set to take place on Sept. 17 from 1 – 6 p.m. in Port Angeles. A highlight of this year’s celebration will be the Grape Stomping Boogie Dollar Dance benefiting Healthy Families of Clallam County, a non-profit organization providing a wide range of support services to at-risk children, youth, adults and families throughout Clallam County. Yakima’s regionally acclaimed Blue Tropics band wrote and recorded Grape Stomping Boogie exclusively for this annual harvest event, and will perform the song live.
“Fun is the operative word for this event,” says Kathy Charlton, owner of Olympic Cellars. “There’s something for everyone! When the Blue Tropics play, you can’t just listen – the music starts and so do your feet! And through our partnership with Healthy Families of Clallam County, people can move their feet for a very worthwhile cause – preventing child abuse – while having a great time.”
The celebration includes a Classic Harvest Costume Contest, in which members of the public are invited to create and model their own interpretation of classic harvest couture. Those with a good throwing arm can try their luck at the Grape Toss Contest, and two-person teams (age 16 and over) are encouraged to put their best foot forward in the Grape Stomping Contest. The stomping and swamping begins at 2 p.m. and prizes for all competitions will be awarded at 3:30 p.m.
Good food and lots of wine tasting will round out the day, along with an on-site outdoor market showcasing unique locally-made products to jump-start holiday shopping. A limited number of
T-shirts boasting the Grape Stomping Harvest Party logo will also be available.
Event staffing will be provided by Healthy Families of Clallam County volunteers as part of 2X Success™, Olympic Cellars’ innovative philanthropic program centered on sustainable community partnership. In return for each volunteer hour provided by Board members, staff and other recruits, Healthy Families will receive one bottle of Olympic Cellars’ Go Girl Red wine, part of the popular Working Girl™ wine series, to be used for fundraising purposes.
“We are so excited to be a part of this wonderful event,” says Laurey Hansen-Carl, executive director, Healthy Families of Clallam County. “It’s a very fun way to raise money that will help children in Clallam County. The wine we earn in exchange for providing volunteers will be sold by the glass at a fundraising event we’ll hold at Olympic Cellars in 2006. The money will be used to help fill gaps in our current funding -- particularly to provide therapy for children who witness domestic violence, and educational/support groups for children and teens in the schools. We’re very pleased that Olympic Cellars is so willing to help us stomp out child abuse!”
